Sweet Potato Hitler

Well, here we are on day #5 of single parenthood and I'm starting to drag just a little bit. I seriously don't know how single mothers do it. And I even have fairly well behaved children so how hard can my job be?! (Although Scott did admit the other day that he could never be a stay-at-home dad. That made me feel a little better about my low-pride parenting moments.) Anyway, the biggest hurdles that we're facing now are: Henry - potty training (ugh!) and Ruby - eating solid foods. She is not doing so well on eating; she either arches her back and cries or just blows raspberries and sweet potato puree goes everywhere! Then Henry gets in on the mouth full of food raspberry blowing and I get so close to my boiling point -- it ain't pretty. Anyway, that's what we've been up against lately.

To get the kids out of the house last Friday, I took them to a little "water park" in the nearby city of Belgrade. It wasn't much to look at but it sure was appreciated on a super hot day. I don't know what I was expecting, I know that Henry is very un-brave when it comes to things like this, but he was so clingy and unadventurous! Scott and I are both fairly adventurous people (okay, mostly Scott) so why is our child so afraid of a little splashing water?!? Our little trip lasted about 30 minutes, most of which consisted
of me walking him around to all the various water features but only to look at them because he wouldn't go near anything that might potentially spray him. Good thing we put on that swim diaper! So this pictures shows my little daredevil in all his courageous glory. Oh well, at least I tried, right?

Cels, who needs courage when you have a pot belly like he does?

Pot belly being a good thing (I love it).

I think that's really what it is. He feels his belly displays enough courage and sends fear to the heart of every child he encounters, therefore, he doesn't need to be adventurous or courageous.

Well, you did your part in attempting a fun outing. Those kind of parenting moments are so rewarding aren't they? It is like taking Kate to ride a local carousel...I'm being the nice mom, buying her three rides....only to have to pry her off the stupid white horse, kicking and screaming. Puts a damper on the event, doesn't it? I bet you are so glad that Scotty has returned. You never know the true meaning of "absence makes the heart grow fonder" until your husband leaves you home alone with two kids! Hell, I feel that way with Jim just being gone at work, let alone a week long rafting trip!!

I can attest to that (just kidding Aids, seems like you have been better lately). Hey Scott!

Hi Celia...so good to see that Adrienne finally talked you into the whole blogging bit. She took some coaxing too, but I knew she'd be a natural seeing as how she's always on a pedestal about something. he.

well, I can relate to you on the woosiness of your son. Jack was loving the water 2 weeks ago, now he has decided to be deathly afraid, clinging to my swimsuit for dear life. what gives? but I'll be darned if he is a water wimp!

I thought I was the only mom putting forth all the effort for nothing - good to know I'm not alone out there. I think Owen will still be in diapers when he get's married and when asked if he takes his bride he'll say "AH HUH!" Because he still won't be able to say "yes"

p.s. you need to change your comments to allow anyone so I don't have to "log in" to comment - I know it's all about ME RIGHT??? :)
