A Man of His Word

Like many other little three year-old LDS kids, Henry became a Sunbeam on Sunday. The interesting part of this story is not that he cried and threw a fit (because he didn't) or that he dazzled his fellow "Primary Participants" with his understanding of the book of Isaiah (which he's never even heard of), the interesting part is what happened AFTER primary. Here's how it went down:

Primary Secretary (handing me a piece of paper): Hi Sister Christensen. He did great! Here's a little paper for you. Henry is going to give the talk next Sunday in Primary.

Me: [silence]

Primary Secretary: [Smiles]

Me: Seriously?

Primary Secretary: Oh yes! [still smiling] He volunteered!

Me: Seriously?

Still Me (but only in my head): Who holds a three year-old to his word, especially when he has no idea what you're talking about?

Anyway, so apparently, Henry is giving a talk, in his second week of Primary--ever.

Just so you know, I have to bribe him with cookies just to get him to talk to his grandparents on the phone (which he mostly ends up refusing to do anyway). So, this ought to be interesting.

He's supposed to choose one of his favorite scripture stories and tell it in his own words. I sure hope he doesn't choose Daniel and the Lions' Den or he might end up with a nasty case of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder if he starts having flashbacks.

LOL. I'm picturing you on all fours growling at him. Seriously. How is a 3 year-old supposed to know what giving a talk in primary is includes?

Oh Cels who is that grown up little boy?? Seriously, Hennies is so darling. But good look with that talk....oh wait! I have an idea...."Some people go fishing on Sunday, but I don't. (Flip) Some people go shopping on Sunday, but I don't." Lol! :)

That picture is so cute! Those teeth marks on his forehead couldn't be courtesy of those babyless ladies could they?

Well, I'm the Primary Secretary and I'm thinking about signing the Sunbeams up for talks for the next few weeks or maybe I'll even hit up the nursery for some guest speakers!

Why yes Nikell, that little red mark across his forehead is certainly the one and only teeth-mark scar, courtesy of the baby-less ladies. They're so thoughtful, aren't they?

I'll let you know how the talk goes. I say bring those wee ones from the nursery right in and then maybe they'll know better than to "volunteer" for a talk on their first day of primary!

What a handsome little man! We need to get together soon so McKinley can play with "Jeffrey"-or in other words-Henry.

Just take A LOT of cookies with you to church.

I always loved giving talks in church. But then, I also like taking standardized exams, so I'm not a reliable source.

Good luck!

Adrienne's comment reminded me of one of my "favorite" Primary songs. First of all, the music is totally minor, but the words are the best: "It shouldn't be hard to sit very still, when I think of how Jesus died on the hill. No, it shouldn't be hard, not hard at all."

I think that's the best guilt trip ever: if you don't sit still it's because you don't love Jesus and HE DIED on a cross!

I'm going to teach it to my Primary kids this year, FOR SURE!

Oh my! Well you could look at it this way. YOU are giving the talk and now YOU can get it over with. :) That is funny that he volunteered. He probably thought it was for something different.

Well I'm dying to hear how it went. Do tell.
